The Terrace

Several watchtowers can be seen from this large panoramic terrace.

The castle, like all fortresses, was connected to a series of lookouts through which warning signals could be sent in case of danger. Looking to the left, you can see the Via Appia, the main artery of the Roman Empire, and the historic centre of Itri.

On the right, you can see Gaeta Castle and the sea.

The terrace was probably originally covered with a wooden roof and was a room accessed either through the door of the square tower or through the other staircase connecting it with the living area.
